Hipster is a dirty word says Williamsburg

Posted on Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 by lee

People really don’t like the term “hipster.” Black 20 news hit the streets of Williamsburg to find out what people thought about the term. Throughout the video, you can see more and more people saying they’re not hipsters, but would probably be considered by others to displaying “hipster” tendencies. Did you know it was a nasty word?

Sushi Time 2003 Playlist

Posted on Friday, November 21st, 2008 by lee

On Thursday, I had sushi in Brooklyn. When I entered, me and my friend were the first people to have dinner and the workers seemed to be hanging out as their playlist would be suitable for a house party circa 2003. I thought maybe it would slow down to a halt and be more traditional jams, but it did not. That’s lucky for you, because now you can listen to this.

What’s your favorite song from 2003? What am I missing here?

This pair is dedicated to The Big Day Out, the biggest outdoor concert event in Australia taking place for its 17th year. These shoes will be available throughout Australia, so if you’re there, can you get me a pair? Also, 50 pairs of tickets to the Big Day Out will be in randomly chosen boxes.

Graffiti turns into animation

A friend tipped me off to Blu. Blu is a graffiti, sketch and video artist in London, I believe. His book of sketches can be found on his website and look sick, but he also recently released this “wall-painted animation” called “Muto.” Watch in awe.

Super Obama World

Posted on Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 by lee

When I was 7, I loved Super Mario Bros. When I was 24, I loved Barack Obama. Now, I love Super Obama World.

After the election, I found this game. This must have been what Obama did to win the election. He didn’t need to defeat Joe, Mario, Luigi the plumbers; he went right for the kill on Sarah Palin. Though it finishes with the “Bridge to Nowhere” rather than Tupac coming back to life to perform at the Inauguration, it’s a game to check out. Go play Super Obama World and tell me your high score.

Cool Art and a ridiculous man

Posted on Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 by lee

In researching for this blog, I often come across some ridiculous news, pictures and videos. If they were all on this blog, you’d be reading for days, but I filter out the junk for the creme of the crop type stuff.

Big Mike escapes prison

This man, “Big Mike” Lapointe was released from Canadian prison after it was decided he was too big for his cell.

Lapointe described his time in prison as “a living hell,” CTV Montreals’s Annie Demelt said.

He said he could not take a proper shower and he had trouble sleeping because his body protruded about six inches off each side of his bed.

This is the 2nd week of playlists. For this week, I was influenced by Rock Band and wanted to dig deep a little to come up with some tasty gems that you probably didn’t forget, but should listen to right now.
